When in Need of Inspiration

Originally posted Jan. 10, 2018
We all have our own favorite quotes that can uplift us in times of need. Here’s my Top 3 and why:
1. “Well behaved women seldom make history.” -Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
You don’t change society or become memorable by doing everything that is expected of you.Rosa Parks, isn’t famous for sitting on her area of the bus like she was suppposed to. She is famous for breaking society’s rules and standing up for herself. Constantly push the boundaries of what is possible. Life would be pointless if you always did what was acceptable. Only when you fail, can you really step up and become something better.
2. “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.”
-Mark Twain
Nerd moment, I first heard this quote on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. In times of change it is completely normal to be nervous, even terrified. For me, whenever I am truly terrified of a big change, that’s how I know I am on the right path. The most life changing and rewarding experiences are the scariest. You can’t let fear stop you from taking that chance.
3. “Perfect love casteth out all fear.” -Moroni 8:16
Yes, another quote about fear. Yes, I am quoting the Book of Mormon. Sorry if you’re not LDS, but this is still a great message. I used to get terrible social anxiety and at times I still struggle with it. I learned on my LDS mission that the secret for me is to try to see every one as God sees them. When I try to love people and see the potential they have as God sees them, it makes it a lot easier for me to try to connect to people that I wouldn’t typically be comfortable talking to.

So there you have it!

Much love and support,
Maria Jo Stephens
